On Thursday 5th of September 1st and 2nd year BSc Tourism students went on a familiarisation trip to Wageningen University. Sleepy but excited the day started with caffeine at the Forum canteen. After a warm welcome by the study advisor – Michael Marchman – the 1st and 2nd years parted their ways. The 1st year students got an introductory Research Methods I lecture by Jarl Kampen. WUR LibraryMeanwhile the 2nd year students attended a library instruction. These library exercises contributed directly to the course Tourism Development and Planning.

Lunchtime…. Thanks to a beautiful Indian summer, students enjoyed a sunny picnic on the grassy campus lawnsForum. Then groups switched activities. The first BSc Tourism students got a short campus tour and an instruction on how to use the online library. Having access to the library databases of both NHTV Breda AND Wageningen University unlocks an amazing universe of information! Meanwhile the second year students attended a Research Methods II lecture by Eugenio van Maanen.

The afternoon programme was organised by study association Pangea. The first year students went on a scavenger hunt across Wageningen. The game was about collecting points by performing crazy assignments like: ‘take a shower’, ‘go to a supermarket & steal someone’s shopping list’, and ‘switch clothes with a total stranger of the opposite gender’. Great fun! The second year BSc Tourism enjoyed a vibrant Salsa Class, offered by ISOW. The tropical temperatures outside perfectly matched this exotic dance. Towards the end of the session some of the first years joined to practice their Latin moves. This class even inspired some to take an extra-curricular Salsa-course at Bress in Breda!

Last but not least everyone gathered at ISOW to network and to enjoy a lovely Greek meal!
9pm….. time to get on the bus and take some nice impressions of Wageningen University back to Breda.
