In the morning we moved by boat from Koh Mak to the east side of Koh Chang, where we had a meeting with Mr. Fluck who runs his own guesthouse programme. During the meeting he explained to us how the community involvement works at this part of the island and how the guesthouse is integrated in the environment in a sustainable way. Afterwards, we were taken on a tour through the mangrove and fisher village by a local guide.
In the evening we explored the mangrove again, but from a different view. We went kayaking on the beautifully calm lake and dense mangrove. Prior to activity, a woman, nicknamed ‘Tough Cookie’, explained that the people on Koh Chang managed to involve an entire community in the tourism by letting the locals share the profit that is generated from the tourism.
After all these activities we returned to Mr. Fluck’s resort where some of us had a rather adventurous night as they slept in tents and in hammocks.
