Every year, first-year students are called to experience the National Field Project, while second-year students are leaving for their International Field Practicum. But you might ask yourself: what are these courses? Long story short, the NFP and IFP are research projects (but we can call them trips😉), where students are asked to conduct research in the field of tourism, by collecting data through surveys. The NFP is a short trip around the Netherlands that lasts no more than a week; this year, first-year students had the opportunity to visit the cities of Den Haag, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, while also exploring smaller towns such as Delft or Volendam. During the same period, second-year students are also fully immersed in a research trip: the International Field Practicum. Each year, students implement a research project in a real-life scenario, always in another country. Students work in a fully intercultural setting and work with local students as well. This year, second-year students had the pleasure to conduct their research in Montenegro, one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations. The IFP is basically divided into 3 steps: reaching the destination in a maximum a week, conducting the research itself for three weeks, and going back to the Netherlands. Both NFP and IFP represent good opportunities for the students to spend quality time together and bond, discover new places, and directly engage with the dynamics of tourism development. BTO students can confirm that NFP and IFP are experiences that will be etched in our memories for a very long time!
