Project Description

This bachelor’s thesis explores which push motives, pull motives, activities and amenities are preferred by Dutch agritourism campsite visitors and which play a role in deciding to visit one. A quantitative study design with an online survey was used to measure the intention and the personal preferences of tourists to visit an agritourism campsite. The study found that pull motives have a significant positive impact on agritourist intention and that activity and amenity preferences have a significant negative impact on agritourism intention. New, occasional and frequent agritourists differ from each other in terms of average scores they value the individual items. However, the three most and least favoured items per category for the three types of tourists were similar. The most important items for the whole sample were: to take a break from daily routine, to enjoy the natural environment, watching animals and eating local food. Basic facilities such as electricity and proper sanitation facilities were most preferred. The goal was to support (future) agritourism site owners, especially farmers who want to diversify their income, by providing a clear and on facts based profile of a Dutch agritourism campsite visitor. This can be found at the end of the discussion chapter. This information can help them to understand the needs of their guests better and apply strategies to attract new tourists.
